"error 3043 - Access FE/BE wants network

Hiya Access gurus.
1st, not a lot of exp with Access, I'm an Oracle guy usually.
I set up a 2 PC Access system. One (a notebook) is used as client and server, the other as client only. They are connected by a router.
I would like to take the c/s notebook home ocasionally. If I unplug the blue cable on the Client/server box, Access gives me a "Disk or Network error (error 3043). As long as the C/S can see the router (even if the other box is disconnected) i can get at the database.
I guess the Access client does'nt realise that the server is on the same box and so looks for a network? I could take the router home as well :-) but that's just silly.
Any ideas (prob something obvious I'm hoping).
Thanks, grantc
