Can open DB multiple times but only on one PC

Hi All,
I have an MS Access DB (2003) with frontend on PC (xp) and backend on
Server (2003). I can open multiple instances from this PC. I make a
duplicate copy of the MS Access DB and put it onto another PC and I
can only open one instance. Does anyone know what would be preventing
it from opening multiple time on the one PC but not on the other. I am
NOT using an MDW file and the shortcut target is just:
C:\Volunteer\Volunteer.mdb

Thanks for your input.

Cheers,
Barry

What happens if you open Explorer, get to C:\Volunteer, and right click
on Volunteer.mdb, and select Open?

Sounds like the first PC is opening in Shared mode, but the other one is
opening Exclusive.

Check the Default Opening Mode setting under Tools | Options.

After I have the volunteer.mdb database open and then open Explorer,
go to C:\Volunteer, and right click on Volunteer.mdb, and select Open,
I am taken to the open Volunteer database window.
