Using query to filter records by date

P: 1
Hello,

I am using Microsoft Access 2007. I am attemping to create a query that filters a table by the field DateFinalized. The relevant fields in the table (named Assignments) are LastName and DateFinalized. Each LastName can have multiple DateFinalized records. The purpose of my query is to only select the most recent date for each LastName. After reading around the site I tried a method of ordering the table by ascending order and changing the Query Properties "Top Values" to 1. Although, as excepted, this only pulled the most recent date for one LastName. How would I approach pulling the most recent date for each LastName? I appreciate the help.
