Only vegetarian sausages for me Linq ;)
It's the Germans (especially from the southern parts) that are really famous for eating sausages.

Oh, yeah! I keep forgetting... it's them Germans that invented Toad in the Hole, Scotch Eggs and Bangers and Mash! My mistake!

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying we don't have a lot of sausage over here - just that the Germans are more famous for it.
I even eat vegetarian sausages from time-to-time (I'm not sure Scotch Eggs qualify for inclusion in the exemplar list though).

Sure they do; they're British food! The name "scotch" is just a jab at your fellow islanders! The Scots actually don't have enough good taste to eat Scotch eggs! The eat (egads, makes me nauseous just saying it!!!) haggis!

Actually, I learned that England did, in fact, have an excellent national cuisine at a place here in Richmond (Virginia, that is) named Matt's Pub! Matt was a retired chef who spent 25 years working for the Cunard Lines, and who had one of the best kitchens in the city! Richmond is about 120 miles from Washington, D.C. and the staff from the British Embassy in D.C. often made the trip to eat at Matt's!

So tell me, Ade, did you become a veggan before or after the Mad Cow Disease scare?

I'm not exactly vegan Linq - vegetarian.
Vegans foreswear pretty well anything that is not plant based. I eat unfertilised eggs and drink milk and other dairy products.
To answer the question though, I went veggie around 1984/5. If you'd told me that I would merely 3 years earlier I would just have known you were lying ;) There would have been no way of anticipating the change with my fairly orthodox views of meat-eating. Well, what did I know?

I guess it probably is John :)
Technically though, sausage refers to the technique of presenting the food rather than the contents as such (I think). I'm happy to accept that most people think of meat when using the term though.
