hyperlink help

I've been using the hyperlink base in A97 healthily and happily for some
time.
I'm now trying to do the same in A2003 and having problems:

If I set the hyperlink base to c:\temp and link in 'c:\temp\myfile.doc',
it saves 'temp\myfile.doc' as the hyperlink, instead of just the
filename. Then, of course, when it tries to open it, it cannot find the
file 'c:\temp\temp\myfile'

What's this supposed to mean? Must the hyperlink base be only a root
directory and not a folder location? Doesn't seem to make sense.

Thanks.

There's 2 (3 if technical) parts of a hyperlink in Access. There's
display and the address. Display would be "Press me" and the address
c:\temp\test.doc. Are you sure you're updating the write component?

I haven't actually updated/manipulated anything yet. This is all just
using the Edit Hyperlink dialog - it seems to store the incorrect
location as the address.
