OpenReport showing single charater for a field

I'm opening a report via a query. I want the report to only show the first charater in the Forename filed. I've tried lots of diffrent ways but with no success. I've been using the code Left (forename, 1). Is this correct ? Where should i be using this ?

Thanks

Solved it.

in the query i put a new filed with this as its name
Initial: Left([forename],1)

Then used the new field in the Report.

Easy when you know how !

Or, in Form Design View, you could have created an unbound textbox and as its ControlSource entered:

=Left(ForeName, 1)

and it would do the job! But calculated fields in queries can come in handy for all kinds of things!
