8.3 filename conventions for table names?

Does anyone know if table, form, query, report names, are affected by the 8.3 filename conventions of Windows? I have some fairly long table names, with multiple suffixes, and I'm wondering if I could optimize performance speed if I reduced the table name length.

Yes, long names can affect performance over a network...but moreso the mdb name used for directory path, not so much the table names (see last link below). AFAIK, most Access Developers follow the Leszynski naming convention....but there are differences of opinion see links).
