Save the rankings of a Top 10 list for future comparison

I am new to Access but I think this project I am in is not for beginners.

I have a report that shows the top 10 borrowers produced every quarter-end. I would like to save the rankings of these top 10 customers so that on the following quarter-end, I can compare their current ranks to their previous ranking.

Can someone show me on how this can be done? I am thinking of creating a table with a column (rank) that would be an outonumber but I am not sure if this is the correct route.

Aloha....

Hello and welcome to the Scripts!

Your thought to create a separate table is correct. It will have about 5 columns in it, though.

Name: tblHistoricRanking
HistRankID Autonumber PK
BorrowerID Number FK
Rank Number (validation rule set to 1 through 10)
RankQuarter Text
RankYear Date/Time

This table will be related to your Borrowers table with the linking field being the BorrowerID. You'll likely want to enforce referential integrity also, specifying cascading updates and deletes.

Regards,
Scott
