Cross-Tab functionality but with Text values

I am constantly coming across the need to display textual information in a matrix format. Most typically are schedules with Date as column heading and Machine or CrewName as Row heading, then JobName as the 'value' field.

As crosstab queries can only tabulate, (as far as I am currently aware of) can anyone help me determine the best way to accomplish text-value matrix displays without using a ga-zillion sub-forms/reports (for each unique day)?

TIA

Hi

I am a llittle puzzled as to why the 'JobName' cannot be used as the Value !

Assuming there is only one JobName for each Date and Machine/CrewName (which is what you are implying) then just use JobName as the Value field and First as the total type in the crosstab design grid.

Aha!
MTB: You hit on the issue I mistakenly implied (that there can be more than one JobName per crew/machine per date.) However you forced me to focus on the forest through the trees!

I was able to add a [SortBy]-# field to the JobSchedule table and use that as an additional row heading to accomplish the desired result.

<much better than the Make-Table Flat file approach I was heading when i posted :-)
Thanks!
