Reports won't open in design or preview mode

I have multiple multi-user databases with both the front and back ends
residing on my network. Each user has his/her own front end mdb, all
of which point to a central backend mdb.

Occasionally, some random user will be unable to open any reports. On
that particular machine, no reports in any Access application will
open in any mode, even design mode. A couple of years ago we banged
our heads against this until we found an odd solution--deleting and
reinstalling the network printer on that machine. For some reason,
that did the trick--restored immediate functionality.

Now I've got a user that fix doesn't work for. On her machine, no
Access reports will open, despite the fact that I've blown ALL her
printers away & reinstalled (users typically have 3-8 printers
installed). Twice.

Has anybody encountered this? I find it particularly strange since it
continues to happen even since we moved the front-end databases off
the hard drives & onto a network share. I can open the same mdb on
another machine and the reports are fine. No changes had been made to
the current victim's machine, no new software installed.
