Access Summary Report using COUNT and SUM

I'm trying to SUM the CountOf field totals in a report.

In a report based on a select query that uses CountOf{fieldname} I am attempting to get the SUM totals of the X number of count totals.

ie: =sum(CountOfLast name)

I'm getting an error. What formula should i use to achieve this.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I don't think you can use the Sum function on an expression that is in a different grouping. What you can try to do to achieve this is the following (I am assuming your CountOfLastName is in a different grouping than where you're trying to place this sum):
Duplicate your text box CountOf{fieldname}, and under properties change Visible=No and change Running Sum = Over Group. Now, in your report footer (again, I'm assuming that's where you are wanting this sum function), create a textbox with the formula =[NameOfInvisibleControlYouJustCreated]
