Update query strangeness

If I use a linked table (linked to a CSV text file) in an update query I get
a "linked tables cannot be updated" error. What the? The CSV data is the
*source* data and I'm not attempting to update it at all. Is this a bug?

Bug? Yes and no. You can't update a CSV (or any text file) with any
version of Access.

Either import the file into a temp table (preferably into a temp db
you can throw away when your done with it), or open a query that uses
the CSV as a recordset, and step through the recordset updating the
linked table with individual update queries. The second method is
often faster then the first, but it involves VBA Code which tends to
scare a lot of people.
