An ID field in a table can be any type of data. For example it could be a customers credit card number, order number, task ID, etc. Once you have established what your id is i will use the credit card number for an example.

This is how you would link tables based on a ID of a customers credit card number.

Table: Customer                                          Table : Order
CreditCard_ID<-------------------------------------------->CreditCard_ID
First_Name                                                  Product ID
Last_Name                                                  Product_Name
Address                                                       Quanity
Phone_Number

From there you can link a products table and have the ID be Product_ID and that would be your link between the Order table and teh Product table.
