Add a record providing part of the information

I am trying to add a record via a form where the user doesn't enter all the data. This sounds jumbled...Basically, I want to add a record to the XYZ table containing fields ID, Name and Description associated, by ID, with an existing record in the MAIN table. So the user will input Name and Description. The program will set the ID and then enter the row into the XYZ table. This is simple, right ? Any help would be appreciated. Especially help of the KISS mentality. Can I use
doCmd.GoToRecord, acNewRec ?

THANKS!

So... you have a main table but you want to enter records into a related secondary table? Why not use a subform?
