Drag and drop external files (only filenames) into access form?

Hi,

What I want to build is a simple database that just conatins a table with filenames (maybe hyperlinks).

The problem is that I want to be able to fill the table using a form and drag and drop.

For example the user can select a word document say c:\letter.doc and drop it onto some control on the form. This action should result in the filename being stored in a field.

Anyone ever built this or has some info for me?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks.

You have inadvertently posted your question in the Articles section rather than the Forum section of this site. I have moved it to the forum for you.

See this link. I think Leban's made it much easier for you to do what you want.

Thanks!

But this vb_listbox only has drag and drop between components in de the form, I can't drop an external file onto the form and have de filename stored somewhere. Or am I overlooking something?

As far as I know there are no native Access controls in versions prior to 2007 with drop and drag functionality built in to the control. The closest that Access comes is with the TreeView control, which Access exposes drop and drag methods, but it is up to you utilize these methods to create a working application...and I don't know whether it will work for drag & drop of external files..

So with regard to the Lebans control, you may be correct, but we won't know for sure until you download the file. Lebans says that this control offers "true" drag and drop built-in. I am not sure what that means, but it sounds to me that it will accept an external drag as a copy and paste. If it does, you have what you want.

If you want to explore the possibilties of implementing your external drag & drop with the treeView control.....here are the links to help you implement the Access TreevIew control and FileDialog control.

Also here is a link to a third party tool that might be worth you looking at if the other references don't do what you want.

Oke thanks. I downloaded the lebans file already, but no support for external files. The Dropzone thing looks interesting, I just asked them if I can integrate it into access. The Treeview thing I'll be looking into now.
