users for a single database

i have a database where i want people to login to change the data. also i want it so that when the user logs in, any changes made by that user is recorded, so if an entry is changed i want a field saying that this entry was last changed by so and so. is it also possible to highlight receent changes within a certain time period without looking at the dates.
