Vista Destroying Databases

I was just surfing Allen Browne's site and noticed the warning on the
front page about the Vista bug and the associated links to the MS
knowledge base articles. How can this have slipped through the Vista
testing?

Does this mean if someone running one of my databases in a shared
configuration decides to migrate to Vista without telling me that
their data will be trashed?

Am I dreaming? This is almost unbelieveable!

If I understand it correctly, Wayne, the bug is in IPv6. That's the default
protocol used by Win Vista machines. Therefore, if you share a database on a
Vista machine, and open it using another Vista machine, you will experience
the IPv6 bug.

If one machine is Win XP or earlier, Vista will talk to it using IP4, so the
issue does not arise.

I have not personally experienced the bug, but have applied to hotfix to my
systems to prevent it.

Thanks Allen. I'm still flabbergasted that this issue is there. I'm
assuming and hoping that MS will make the fix part of a Vista update
and include it in SP1 when that appears. In the meantime I guess that
anyone using my databases should be informed of the potential for
disaster if they migrate to Vista and don't apply the hotfix.
