Linking MS SQL Tables to MS Access Over the Internet

1
Hello,

I have set up a database in MS SQL Studio Express and created an ODBC (System Data Source) so I could open my database in Access.

I created a file in Access and choose my ODBC for my data source; now my table shows as a linked table in Access and I am able to modify the database in Access.

Currently my Access file is on the same machine as the SQL database. How can I set this up to share it over the internet? My goal is to be able to take my Access file anywhere in the world where there is high-speed internet and view and change my database over the internet.

Also, will there be performance issues in sharing my database in this way?

Do you have any better solutions?

Thanks,

Lavern Gingerich

  1. I'm pretty sure that you will need at least 1 Unique, Indexed Field defined within the Database for it to editable. If a Unique Index is not defined, all resulting Recordsets will be Read Only. Is this your case?
  2. When you refer to being unable to modify the Database, do you mean the data itself, or that you are unable to make structural changes to the DB?
