totaling/summing of multiple sources/columns

Please help. I am creating a database at work and have run into some issues. One of the reports to be generated has total summarizing at the end for info to be filtered from one or more forms. I have set the properties up for this function, however it is still giving me an error message on the report. In Properties i listed the "Control Source" as "=Sum([Total Self Help Groups Offered Monthly])" yet it is not cooperating. I have previously used this function but for some reason it is not accepting. This is my first database created in a few years (previously on a temporary assignment) and wondering if i am missing something or forgot to program something. Should i have updated Visual Basic for this function to appropriately work? Are there any alternatives to the way i have set it up? Please help. Thank you for your time and consideration. Cheri.

Sorry Cheri but you haven't given sufficient information.

Firstly what is [Total Self Help Groups Offered Monthly] ? Is it a control name of the report. What type of data does it contain ?

I really don't know what you are talking about here. Can you provide a lot more information as to what is happening.
