XP Professional and Vista

Hi

Does XP Pro run OK on a Vista machine without problems, unlike Access 97?.

Don't want to buy Vista if I have to upgrade Access.

"XP Pro" is an OS. "Vista" is an OS. I'm not sure what would happen if you tried to run XP Pro on a computer that is already running Vista.

I can think of two other interpretations of your question: 1) Assuming that a "Vista machine" is one that came with Vista: Can you safely remove Vista and install XP Pro instead? Yes, I'm pretty sure there should be no problem with that. Or 2) Can you run the version of Access that came with XP Pro (i.e., Access 2003) under Vista? Yes, you can do that. If (2) is what you meant, then can I guarantee that there will be no problems? No. However, I am supporting an access application where the main user is running Access 2003 on a Vista machine (i.e. a machine that is running Vista as its OS) and no special problems have surfaced so far.

Sorry, I phrased my question badly.

What I meant is that I potentially want to run MS OFFICE XP Professional under Vista, but am not interested in buying Vista if there are compatibility issues.

Sorry for the confusion

If your concern is primarily with running the XP version of Access under Vista, you should read this:

http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread653390.html

If you're more concerned with the XP version of Word/Excel and so forth, you need to go to a more approprite forum, as we deal exclusively with Access here.

Good Luck!
