I'm sorry, but you're still not being terribly clear.
hightlight the color if the datefield in my data is over the current date. if the current date is over the datefield, it will turn into different color
Not sure what you mean by "over" and you first state "data is over the current date" then "current date is over the datefield." But I think this will cover it.
In the Conditional Format Dialog box, under
Condition select
Field Value
Then for cases where the datefield value falls after today's date put
Greater Than --
Date()
For cases where the datefield value falls before today's date put
Less Than --
Date()
