Access 2003 Security On a Network Drive

Hello there,

I have recently followed the steps to creating my secure database as outlined by the following link: http://www.databasedev.co.uk/access_security.html

I have copied the Workgroup information file to the network drive where the database resides and set up the security using the security wizard. Everything works out fine on my workstation. The problem I am having is when someone else from another workstation tries to log in. They have no problem joining the Workgroup. When they go to open the database the login prompt box does pop-up, which to me is a sign that they have infact joined the workgroup successfully, but when we enter any one of the user names and passwords I have created, it doesn't seem to recognize them. It says "Not a valid account name or password".

Does anybody have any idea what the problem is here?

I think they have to JOIN the workgroup from their workstation.

If you have a lot of people using the DB, make a shortcut with group file for them.

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\MSACCESS.EXE" "yourdatabase.mdb" /wrkgrp "yourgroupfile.mdw "

I did this, and works well.

O.K so I fixed the problem. I am not 100% sure how I did it, but it was either because I had not removed the default admin account from the admins group, or because I went in and set it up again from the actual network drive.

Now I have the problem that others seem to have where if I change back to my original Workgroup I can access the database without any security enabled?

It seems there is always something with this security setup!?!?

Thank you for the reply, I was just posting as you were.....and I agree I like as well. I may try the shortcut also, as you can see in my last reply I am having another issue and maybe that will resolve it
