Cascading combo/listboxes

P: 40
Hello all,
I am fairly new to Access. I have a decent understanding of database concepts from working with sql developer and Oracle's APEX. In MS access, I would like to know how to populate a list from a list of values (maybe a combobox in Access?) On my form, I have a combobox that has values from a "Letters" table, which is A-Z. I would like to know how to populate a listbox/combobox to retreive Employees names (Last name, First, name) based on the chosen letter in the first combobox (is this called cascading?).

I guess a more straight-forward question would be 'Is this possible to do in a sql statement, or would it have to be done in VBA by calling the objects and so forth?'

Here's a pic just to clarify:

I would like to be able to do the same thing with the dept# there as well. The user would select a Dept# and the list box would populate the names according to those in the selected department.

I have taken classes in Java, C++, and SQL/Oracle so don't hesitate to get a litle technical.

Any links, info, tips, or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your time,
