bad record - won't delete not editable

Hph
I have a repeating problem that I have been able to fix in the past
only one way. I get a record that turns from 'english' to "foreign
symbols" and then I cannot edit or delete that record. The way I have
gotten around it before is to make a copy of the table (structure
only) and then copy and pasted the good records into it. Then I was
able to delete the bad table and move on. This is time consuming but
does work until some months later, out of the blue, a record will go
bad again and I'm doomed to recopy using the above process.

In the past this has happened to supporting tables within my database
that linked to other tables or my main table. My main table (which
"auto-numbers" and assigns the record number I link with, is the one
that has gone bad. I cannot copy the data to another table because is
changes the record number because of the "auto-number"ing. If I turn
off the auto number I can copy it but then cannot revert back to "auto-
number". This bad record issue has crashed my database and stopped it
from merging and running queries in the past. Although that is not
happening currently it will not allow me to add my client in as I have
a "no duplicates" on SSNs.

Any advice or insight into what is causing this error to ocurr? How
it can be fixed for good? I've copied the database numerous times
now. I too much data linked to this table to back and assign all new
numbers to data linked in the other tables. Help.

I read the thread listed below, and I agree with some of it, but I wonder if
they really know that it is chinese, and not just corrupt / jibberish
characters... :)

Anyway, I too found trouble dealing with memo fields and multi-user
environments (but possibly single user as well). I tried to alter my forms
to always do a save record command after a user makes a change to a memo
field. Additionally, running the Jetcomp.exe utility a couple of times on
the database with the bad records will resolve the corruption often enough.
