auto number

P: 7
all of a sudden, my auto number is out of sync and since I allow no duplicates, the record won't save. It should be 2007-021 and it is populating 2007-009 and I already have an 009. How do I fix this?

It sounds like your table indexes are corrupted, and need to be rebuilt.
1. Place your table in design view.
2. Go to the toolbar, and click the button with an icon that looks like a lightning bolt (near the button for the primary Key).
3. When the index table comes up, review the indexes...if you have any duplicate indexes....permanently delete the duplicate.
4. Rebuild the remaining indexes by deleting, saving your table without the index, then readding the index.
5. Test to see if the problem you had is fixed now.

thank you. That did not fix it. I had to delete the records, then append them back... but I appreciate your input and will keep it in mind for future chanllenges, which I am sure I will have....
