Access: (Problems with Reports)

I'm having problems with Reports and I'm seeking some help, or advice on how to solve this problem. Any help will be much appriciated!

It’s hard to explain but I will try to do my best:
In my Database I have about 6 to 7 reports that show me all the data from different tables. When I open any Report in 'Print Preview' Mode everything looks fine and the Reports open just fine. But once in a while, for some strange reason and I don't know why, the report doesn't want to open........
I keep clicking on the Report but nothing happens, even when I try to open the same report in design view mode, the application won't allow me to open it........ Also once this problem occurs it lock up some of the other reports, and it doesn't allow me to open any of the other reports (not all of them, but some of them, the problem occurs at random, not always happens on the same report). When I close down the entire application and re-open it, the report that was locked up, opens up just fine.

Another thing I have noticed was… when I keep clicking and trying to open any of the reports after the error has occurred, the report that was locked up, all the sudden works again. I can go even 2 min before the problems occurs (2 min worth of clicking every report and not getting any problems) but there are times that the problem occurs every 30 sec or so).

Things I have done so far:
-I have deleted all the tables and all the reports, and created them from the beginning.
-I wasn't running any filters, or queries to modify the tables.
-I have used wizard to create all the reports
-Control Source looks fine..... No expr 1 fields
-While running the reports I didn't get any err messages
-Once I close the entire app, and re-open it (the reports that was locked up works fine)
-I was running the application in MDE, Compact and Repair Database, and Design View Mode
-This problem occurs random not always on the same report.
-Each report is closed before the next report is opened.
-Relationship between the tables looks good ...... no problems there. (I have linked all the necessary tables together with 'primary key' ID Fields)

At the moment I don’t know what to do anymore or where to look for the bug ……….. If any one can help me out .......... that would be great ....... any info, any advice will be welcome........ Thank You!

I'm running MS Access 2000 (9.0.8959 SP-3) on Windows XP SP2 with Updates up to date.

I would suggest you look at your printer drivers as this sounds more like a printer problem than an Access one. Access will not let you open a report even in design view if it cannot find a printer. The random nature of this problem and the fact that it also affects design view lead me to believe it is the printer. Talk to your network people maybe your printer is dropping in and out.

I just wanted to thank you, for your advice. Looks like you were right about the problem. But I still have to find a way around it, or fix it. This is the only printer I can use to view the data or print the data. Do you know by any chance where to look for the problem, and what things to look for? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you once again!

I'm using HP LaserJet 4240N Printer.

I was thinking to change the default printer to Cute PDF Writer when ever the user wants to view the report and use the default printer HP LaserJet 4240N Printer to print the data. But that would complicate things more, and cause more problems along the way. Do you have any other suggestions??

I'm afraid I'm no expert on printer drivers. I think using a virtual printer like Cute PDF may be your best bet.
