Sorry I sent that post before it was done

I have an inventory control table including the following reference fields.
Manu Manufacture ID
ManuPN Manufacture part number
ManuCF Manufacture configuration.

For older part numbers these fields are NULL. I want to add a combined index
on these 3 fields so that they are unique if not NULL. will setting the
ignore NULL flag do this?

Not an answer to your question, bu can you just do a one time update
statement to set the ManuPN to <oldor something?

I don't want to set the old part's ManuPN to a default other then NULL. If
it is NULL I want the index to ignore the record. I want to stop users from
entering a non NULL manufacture's part number that duplicates an existing
part.
