Error message

Hello, I have a form with subform. There are two fields in the subform; 1) is a default from the header, the other is an input field. When entering data into the input field I get error message; 'You can't assign a value to this object' and that the cause may be;
'Control on a read only form'
'open in design view'
'Too large for this field'.

I have created the form 2 or 3 times to try and correct the problem but cannot do so.
ANy help would be appreciated.

Hello, what other information can I give?
I created one form which contains the header data. I then created a second form which contains the detail data and has two fields; the first field is copied from a field on the header, the secon field should be keyed in. Whenever I try to key the data the error message is displayed. However it then populates the field with the data. Regards, Hugh

2. What is the Data Type of the value being copied?
