Show menus again!

Okay I did a really dumb thing lol.

I created some forms for these guys to enter in some data. But I didn't want them mucking around in the database that has taken me so long to build. So I turned off all the menus so they wouldn't have any options. And now I can't get into the database! Help! How do I turn everything back on?

thanks

try pressing the SHIFT key then open your database. It may have to be done a few times as it doesnt always work first time around.

This is a bypass unless of course u have disabled that via code

Yes I did have a backup for design purposes but not a backup of the data they already entered and I just needed to look at the tables to find out how much they've put in there.

thanks again everyone! You can bet I wont' make that mistake again!

Backups are a wonderful thing, can't have enough of them.

I also have my workaround.

Each DB I create I have a label on one form whereby I double click it, enter password on prompt and this then removes the disabled bypass.
I then restart db with shift and Im sorted!!! - well just for that one session cos on startup the bypass is disabled again

That's excellent news. I was going to suggest something similar but your post is more fully featured even than the concept I work with. I don't actually have much call for locking up dbs that tightly any more so I don't have any example code.

Would you mind posting a version of your solution (password needn't be your real one of course ;)) as I'd like to set it up as a tutorial and point members to it. I will probably nick it myself too, just in case I ever need to tighten my databases up any further.

Post it wherever but let me know, and I will set it all up and put a link to it in the main Access sticky too.

I'm assuming you're happy to do this, which is possibly a little premature of me. Let me know if this is a problem (time; proprietary code; whatever).

All the best -Adrian.
