Generate a report from a query?

P: 55
hi,

i am a newbie in access and i created a database which is between client and job. the job fields consists of more than 100 fields. i could not split the fields as the relationship is 1-to1. between client and job, the relationship status is 1-to- many.
with large table created, i could enter values from Client form and Job form to the respective tables. so far, everything looks fine.

but when i attempt to create a report, i gotta message saying, "report could not be created because of too many fields"

i've read about normalization but i could not split the table further as the relationship is bit straight forward. my question is,

1. how can i create a report with too many fields?

2. can i create a report from a query? is it possible?...because i need to generate a print out based on my query results...

i would appreciate your help in this case.

thanks.

Hi Kathy

You can create multiple tables with one to one relationships. Just change the indexed property of the foreign key field to Yes (No Duplicates). Access really doesn't like tables this big.

thanks for the reply... i could create the 1-1 relationship between client , address and contact as u said.

but i wanted to create a form using fields from Client table, Address table and Contact Table. Using wizard, i tried to create a form using these 3 tables.
but what i get is an empty form and i could view the fields only in form design view.

Could you please tell me why the fields did not appear in a form view?

thanks,

Kathy

there is no records being returned by the query and the query is not updateable.

Can you post the SQL of the query you are using.

thanks foru your reply..

PARAMETERS eJob Short;
SELECT *
FROM Job, client
WHERE Job.Job_No=eJob And Job.Cli_ABN=client.Cli_ABN;

i am using this query to display the result in the report.

the main problem i hav is, when i combine fields from Client table (foreign key Address_ID, Contact_ID), Address Table (foreign key Cli_ABN), Contact Table (foreign key Cli_ABN)..... to create a form, i get a blank form and i could only see all selected fields only in design view. why is this happening?

thanks in advance.

Also, am trying to add records for the client table using Client form.
when i frrst open the form, i can enter , say for example, 3 records into the table.
but when i open the form again to enter the 4th record, the 1st record is getting deleted from the table and i could see only records 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

need your help.

thanks,
Kathy
