need drop down that shows one set of data and modifies data in another table

Bob
Hi all,

I've designed a database that has an events table and an application
table. Each event has an application associated with it and I've
stored an application code in the events table then stored the actual
name in the associated application table. My problem is that on a
form I want to display all the information from the events table, but
also a drop down of the name of the application, not the code (which
is stored in the events table). Is there a way to display the name of
the application (application table) but modify the application ID in
the Events table when the listbox/combo box is modified?

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Bob,

Yes there is. Dig into the properties of your combo box, data tab. Make
sure the Row Source property includes both the application ID and the
application name, in that order. (You can click just to the right of the
property setting to build a little query to do this.) Set the Bound
Column to 1. Now, on the Format tab, Set the Column Count property to 2
and the Column Width property to something like 0";1" .

All of this translates as, "link the combo box to app id and name, bind
the ID to the row source, and only display the name."

Hoping this helps!
