Joining tables

I have 2 tables, customers and Notes. The customer table contains all the customers details and a reference code. The notes table contain the matching reference code and notes. There aren't as many reference entries in the notes table. Is it possible to merge these values into either a new or existing table?
Tried using an append query but it didnt like the fact that the 2 tables are unlike.

Many thanks in advance

It seems like you have a good setup, why do you want to join the tables. The way you have it seems fine?

To recreate a table with like criteria all you need to do is create an inner join with the table on the right. Go to your query view, drag one reference number to the other reference number and then drag and drop the fields you want to view.

I tried that but it wouldn't work as the number of columns/row are different for each table.

It should work if the data has the same reference number. In one of the tables is reference number the primary key?

Jim,
Something you're saying doesn't make sense.
You only want to link one column.
Do the two columns that need to be linked together share the same attributes?
