create columnar form linked to datasheet subform

P: 2
hello-i am a new access user--access 2003 winXP pro.

I am trying to create a form with a subform that will allow me to navigate though all of the records from a single table.

From a formatting standpoint I want the top of the form to be columnar, displaying one record at a time that is based on a the active (selected) record in a subform at the bottom of the form that is either datasheet or continuous columnar.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what your question is. Have you tried to set this up and if so what problems did you run into?

The problem I am running into is that I cannot seem to figure out how to link the form and subform to each other without one of two things happening.

1. If I set the record source of the datasheet subform to the same table as my form, I get the layout I want but the two forms operate independently of each other.

2. I tried to set the source object of the datasheet subform to the form, but I get an error for trying to place a form within itself.

I hope this makes things a bit clearer, and I apologize if I am confusing things by not using the correct terms. Please let me know if I can provide any further detail.

Thanks again.

OK now I understand.

Go to the frame of the subform object and open the properties. Delete the Master Child relationships so the subform is independent of the main form.

Now in the On Current event of the subform you will need something like the following code:
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. Private Sub Form_Current()
  2.
  3.    Forms!MainFormName.Filter = "[UniqueID]=" & Me!UniqueID
  4.    Forms!MainFormName.FilterOn = True
  5.
  6. End Sub
