invalid use of null run time error 94

my code is
dim subcode as variant,intNumberOfsubTestQuestions(4) As Integer,i as integer
subcode = Array("ma", "phy", "che", "ece")
For i = 0 To 3
intNumberOfsubTestQuestions(i) = DLookup("numofques", "tblt20", "[subcode] = '" & subcode(i) & "'")
if intNumberOfsubTestQuestions(i)<>0 then
.......
...
end if
next i
it works fine if there are some valid no. of questions in each subject.
suppose if there are 0 maths questions in table
then i want to take next subcode in array and if the no.of questions is not 0 then do ........else take next subcode and repeat.....
here it is giving error invalid use of null if there are 0 questions in maths

Nz() the Dlookup. DLookup returns Null if it doesn't find anything.
