System.mdw Error when opening Access

bwesenberg
Access 2002
Windows 2000 Or XP

I have a Access database front end that is stored localy on a users PC. The back end is SQL on a server.

I have about 10 people who get this error occationally when they go into Access:

could't find file 'System.mdw'. This file is required for startup.

I have found that if they open Access with the shortcut to the file is when it happens. So my fix for the mean time is to open Access via the Access icon. Then go to open and navigate to the file. Then they can close out and go and use the shortcut and it works fine.
I would like to eliminate all the extra work.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Save the frontend on the network as this is where the System.mdw file is. And just put a shortcut on their desktop.

Putting the Front End on the net work is not an option.
I have 80 or so users using this database and only 10 have a problem.
A copy is kept on the network and then they run a bat file to run a copy from their own computer so we don't run into the too many user issue.

Any other ideas?

Try putting the system file on the network, with the datafile, and create a shortcut on the users pc with a target like this.

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\MSACCESS.EXE" C:\Bissau\BissauCode.mdb /wrkgrp Z:\Bissau\Bissau.mdw.

Obviously, with the name and location of your own mdb and mdw.
