Help using a form dropdown acComboBox

Hi,

this is the first time that i see the need to not work around the problem i'm facing. I am making a couple of databses in MS Access and cant get a dropdown combobox to be bound to something else then a field in one of my records. I want it to be empty and run code depending on the choosen value not having this value be inserted into my database. Is there anybody who knows how this can ben done?

Thx in advance,
B

Maybe I need to be more specific.

I want to be able to use the after update event of a acComboBox on a Form in MS Access to run code based on its value.

The problem is I dont want to bind the ControlSource to a Field in a Table or Query. I just want the value to be on the form alone. Is there a function, expression or method I can use.

AnyBody? I'm really stuck here.

Just leave the control source blank. The row source tells the combo box what values to show, the control source tells it where to store that value.

Leaving it blank will not let it be updated so my code wont now what has been selected and the dropdown window doesnt close.

Am I doing something wrong.

Rabbit the strangest thing. It works but I cant imagine I haven't tried this. Maybe the long hours killed my concentration but still.

Thanks millions for setting me straight.

Not a problem, it's a common misconception that for the After Update event to trigger that there has to be a record source for it to update to. But that is not the case.
