recordsets from queries

Hi could someone pls tell me whether or not the following is true:

If I call OpenRecordset on a query that selects fields from a table
and then edit the recordset, am I actually editing the table itself?

eg I have code similar to the following in code I am analysing. Will
this edit the actual table t_instrument?

rsInst = openRecordset("select * from q_clsInstrument where sourceID =
" + CStr(sID))

rsInst.AddNew
rsInst![sourceID] = sID
rsInst.Update

and the query defn is:
q_clsInstrument:
SELECT t_instrument.sourceID, t_instrument.Name
FROM t_instrument;
