date format not being applied in table view

waynetheengineer
Hi everyone,

I am trying to set up a date field to only allow users to enter in a date in the following form:

03/26/2007 (month then day then year)

I have this in my General tab for my date field:
Format: mm/dd/yyyy
Input Mask: 00/00/0000;0;

According to tutuorials I've read, this should work. It should not allow users to enter in months that are bigger than 12, or days that are bigger than 31, etc. but this does allow it.

How do I set the format and input mask to restrict users from inputting nonsensical dates (such as 99/99/2007)?

Thanks guys! :)

Wayne.

Set your date field format to Short Date.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply,
I set the Input mask field to short date using the input mask wizard. It outputs the following in the input mask section:
00/00/0000;0;_
but it still won't restrict the number of days to 31 and the number of months to 12

Any other suggestions?
Wayne.

I wasn't talking about the input mask, I was talking about the format.

Yes, you were correct. Your suggestion works perfectly. I'm using MS Access 2002 and the table I created doesn't have the Short Date option selection form the Format field box. But when I downloaded an inventory template from the net, the table there did have what you were speaking of. All I did was just paste this template table in and use it instead. I don't know why the table I created originally has different option types than the template one. Strange. This template might have been created in MS Access 2003, but then why does it open in my Access 2002 program. Anyways, problem solved.

Thank you for the help :)

Not a problem. I never used Access 2002 but I think 2003 uses most of what's in 2002.
