Help for DB deployment FE/BE

2
Hi,

I recently designed a DB with Access 2002, Win 2k for 5 users.
I splitted up the DB in a BE and a FE saved in a sharable drive on the server.
I created a FE copy for each user on the sharable drive and created a shortcut on their PC.
The BE and the FE is on Option Shared mode, Edited Records.
The FE copies are on Option Exclusive mode, Edited Records.

1. I would like to know if everything is correct until now.

This DB has a logon form where users have a password to access this DB.
I have not created a .mde file yet as I am not familiar with setting up MS Access passwords.

2. do you think that this .mde file is necessary knowing that I have a logon form?

Now I deployed the databases, one user needs further reports.

3. Can I do this ? and where (i.e on which end)

I work on this project for a company which has a remote IT department. So I need to sort out this issues on my own.

Thanks for replying

Hi,

I wonder whether my status as New to this discussion forum is a barrier to replies.
Also I don't understand what "Subcribed" means, a lot of people in this forum have "New Post" highlighted in yellow after their message.

If my issue with Access has been mentioned before, I would appreciate if you could direct me to the appropriate solutions.

Thanks for bringing more clarification.

1) This looks fine.

2) You have a logon form in the database? I assume then that the password is also held in the database. An mde will increase security as long as everyone can use it. Make sure you have a backup of the mdb though.

3) If you only want one person to have the reports, then you'd make the changes on his copy of the FE.

... And by copy are you talking about replicas? Because that brings forward new issues.
