Funtions inoperative

I have MS Access 2000. I have recently installed it on a new computer and
transferred my mbd files across. These work OK, including those using SQL
Aggregate funtions. However if I set up a new database, I find that some
of these functions do not work. For instance, I get #Error messages when
trying to use count([fieldname]) or Date(). Sum works OK. As far as I can
see all relevant parts of Access and MS office seem to be installed.

I have run repair and installed the latest MS Office service packs (to SP3),
but the problem remains.

In answer to an earlier post, en****@ridesoft.com suggested that I look at
my references - some are missing. I do not understand this - what are
references and where do look for them?

Can any one help please?

They are explained in the Help file.

Are you referring to the visual basic window? There is a long list of
references there, but I cannot see which might be relevant. There are 5
unchecked refs lower in the list all titled 'Visual basic for Applications'.
Should these be checked? I am not actually wishing to use VBA, only to get
the functions to work in my reports.

Open up a code module. On the menu, click Tools/Reference.
In my example I am using an old version of Access. My refs, in this
order, are
Visual Basic For Applications
Microsoft Access [Access version] Object Library
Microsoft DAO [DAO version] Object Library

Which ones do you have at the top? In what order? You check the
refereneces in the order you want them to appear.

The attachment to my last post showed my checked references. They are in
order from the top:
Visual Basic for Applications
MS 9.0 object library
OLE Automation
MS ActiveX Data objects 1.0 Type Library

These were checked by the system, not by myself.. I have no idea why.
