summation duration...

P: 1
hi everyone, fairly new to access and VBA, but have fundamental knowledge.

as part of a college project i am building a database that records "downtime" for machines in a company.

the engineering team will be entering the time that the machine broke at and the time production was restarted. i need the database to produce by means of a query the difference between these two times.

I then require all of the downtime values to be placed on a report and to then have a summation at the bottom of each page. so that management can easily look at the page and see the total amount of hours of lost production.

i have experimented, using datediff (which i could not get to work), a simple [time2]-[time1] formular, and using the format$ function. i am still unable to get the desired result. the main problem being that when having the summation on the report it "clocks" at 23:59.

i am of the understanding that it is not possible to have a "duration" field in access, and am interested to know if there is any way around the problems that i am having.

if there is no solution then i can say that in my evaluation report, but ideally i would like the system to work.

thankyou for any help that you can provide

Post the query you're currently using and we will try to adapt it for you. Essentially, you have to get the difference in minutes and then convert that to hours and minutes.
