Adding data to a table, using the form.

Although I've created and used Excel for about 8 years, I've got loads to learn., and I'm not even certain how to word my question, but here goes.
I've recently created a database into which I can enter all the data I have accumulated about my ancestry, so that I can see all the information I have about any one individual on one sheet in a 'FORM'. Occassionally I enter data into one of the fields, which is not in the linked table. How cant I get my database to save the new information into my table, when I have typed it in my form, other than closing the form, opening the table, entering the data in the table and re-opening the form again?

You set the Control Source of the text box to the field of the table. The table must also be similarly linked to the form as a whole but using Record Source instead of Control Source.

There are methods you can use if you are using a combo box (drop down) or listbox to display your data and want to add data to it, such as the NotInList event.

(I just learned all about that one recently).

In my original question I typed 'used Excel for about 8 years' when I should have said 'used Access for about 8 years'.
However, Rabbits reply is over my head!
pretend I'm a numbskull!

You set the Control Source of the text box to the field of the table. The table must also be similarly linked to the form as a whole but using Record Source instead of Control Source.
The Control Source is a property that you can access if you right-click the text box and select properties. This property tells the form which field to save the data entered.

The Record Source is a property of the form that tells the form which table to save to.
