XL TransferSpreadsheet Anomaly - cell prefix

The TransferSpreadsheet from Access 2000 sends data to an EXCEL
spreadsheet ok, but all text data ends up with a ' (single character
quote) in front of the data.
(This is an old throwback to Lotus days when character data was
identified with this prefix.)

If I go into a spreadsheet, and type a character into a cell in EXCEL,
no prefix is inserted ( it is an old feature after all)

The Transfer spreadsheet macro specifies Microsoft Excel 8-10 as the
version to process, so why would the process insist on inserting this
prefix ?

Any enlightment appreciated :-)
