Add a ContactID field to a multi user Access db

1
Hi,

This is my first post. Thanks for all the information provided on the site. I read some posts and I didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I am creating a database to log calls Leaders received from customer service agents. I need to have a ContactID to track each call received. I have about 20+ people using the database shared in the server at the time. I tried to launch the database with the built in Access autonumber and the database crashed shortly after. Is there a simple VB code I could apply to my form in order to stop the database from crashing? My users are using the front end split database. Will this code work for me or will it still lock the database? Is there something else I can do?

Any help is appreciated.

Default Value
=DMax("ContactID","tblMain")+1

-----------------------
Vb

Function IncrementField(DataErr)
If DataErr = 3022 Then
Me!ContactID = DMax("ContactID", "tblMain") + 1
IncrementField = acDataErrContinue
End If
End Function
