Default Values not Populating

Hi,

I have built an Access database that links to tables on a SQL server through an ODBC connection. One of my users is having a problem with his forms. None of the values specified in the "default value" property are populating in any comboboxes on his forms. I checked with some of my other users, and no one else seems to be having the issue. He is running Access 2003 SP1. Has anyone heard of this before?

Thanks,
Josh

Was the database designed in Access 2003 and are the other users also using this version of Access?

Try Tools>Macro>Security and select "low" setting.

Hi,

Tried setting the Macro security - no luck. It was created in Access 2003 (I have SP2). Other users are using 2003. A quick sampling of other users seems to show they're using SP2. Do you think it's a service pack issue? It may warrant mentioning that this is an MDB file not an ADP file.

It could well be a service pack issue. Is there any reason that the user can't be given SP2

We're working on it. It's on a company machine so we have to go through IT to get it installed. I think there's a good chance that is it. I will update after he gets SP2 installed.

OK so IT finally installed that service pack on his machine (SP2 for Office 2003). This cleared up the problem of the defaultvalue property not populating in combo boxes. I found this ariticle on support.microsoft.com:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906460/

It says that one of the known fixes in this SP2:

The DefaultValue property is not applied in a UserForm of an .adp file

You try to use the DefaultValue property to automatically populate a string value in a field. When you try to use the DefaultValue property, a new record is created in a UserForm of an Access project (.adp) file. When this problem occurs, the DefaultValue property is not applied. This problem may occur if you also use the FetchDefaults property in the UserForm.

I found this interesting because the file I was dealing with was an MDB file. However, it was linked to tables on SQL Server, which is ADP-like. More of an FYI than anything - make sure you have SP2 installed if you're running Access 2003. The download can be found here:
