Couldn't use <filename> File already in use

Hi Guys,

I've been trawling through this group for an answer to this but can't
find one that works. I have an Access 97 db sitting on a Novell
server that is accessed via a front end with linked tables. There are
several users that need access to this db but some get the "Couldn't
us <filenameFile already in use" error. Every user has the same
level of access rights to the server and their accounts are all
identical but some still can't access it while others have no
problem. I've checked Microsoft's knowledge base but their answer is
based around access rights which I've already checked.

Does anyone know why this happens and how it might be solved.

Many thanks, Dean...

One thing to check - when you get a user reporting this issue, check to
see if there is an equivalent locking file, ie, ldb extension, on the
server share. IOW, if your mdb is MyProject.mdb, when someone has it
open, there should be a MyProject.ldb.

Check for this. The error you are reporting sounds as if when a user
opens the mdb, the locking file is not being created.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for that but the locking file is present for the people who get
into the db without a problem, for the other people the locking file
isn't being created because the db doesn't even get as far as opening.

Dean.
