how do I...?

I need to have a form that displays specific tabs based on certain
criteria (if the person is a member of group "A", a tab displays for
attendance/dues for group "A".) People may be members of one group, or
many. How do I best do that? I'm using Access 2003.

Thanks!

I'm just going to start thinking...

You obviously need a group table. (tblGroups), Group text(50)
You also need a Tab table (that will list all the tabs available on the
form) (tblTabs), Tab text (50)
A table linking groups tabs. A record here will indicate that it
should be visible (tblGroupTabs, Group (FK), Tab (FK))
Now, a users table (tblUsers, User, Text(50))
Finally, a UserRole table (tblRoles, User, Group FK's)
Now, a nice query to show all tabs that a user has access to:
Select Tab from
tblGroupTabs INNER JOIN tblRoles on tblGroupTabs.Group = tblRoles.Group
WHERE tblRoles.User = LoggedInUser
Now, you need some nice VBA code in your form to open the query as a
recordset, and set all the tabs visible that show up in the query.

Let me know if that does not make sense, and i can whip up a quick form
to show it.

How many "groups" are there?

How similar or different is the information for the different groups?

A tabbed interface may not be best; separate tables/forms for groups may not
be best. There are quite a number of ways to handle "people in groups",
depending on the details.

There are at least 4 groups, of which I need to track attendance and
dues paid.....I also need to track contact information, trip attendance
and things of that nature. Thanks for the input so far....

Gee, it would help us help you if you would clarify the specific questions.

I could easily infer from your response that the data is identical except
for the group identity. One single table, or set of tables, in which the
GroupID that applies to a member is a Field, would work nicely in that case.
One Form would do, also, because you could select a Group, and "Filter" or
create a "Where" clause or "Where Condition" for the RecordSource of Forms
or Reports.

On the other hand, you didn't specifically say so, so I'd be guessing.

Here's the question again:

The information about each group... is it the same type of information,
e.g., is "attendance" the same in each group (like "date of meeting/class",
present/absent, etc.) or could it be different? Of course, you will need to
identify the "trip" for attendance, but is the information about attendance
on a trip the same?

Sorry for misunderstanding....basically, yeah - each group would have
if they paid dues for that month for that group, if they were present
each week....is there a way to allow a user to add trips?
