Can Access be used by other applications as a data store

I just completed my Access course and i want to ask what is next?

and can i use it to program a software? am asking this because i have seen a database software used as point-of-sale which stores its data in ACCESS.

am ready to become one of the best students in this site.

The next thing is to find a "problem" to solve using Access.
That can be from a collegue, friend, or something you would like to automate yourself.

Access is like any other database and can be connected to various other applications like VB, Java, C++, various web applications, etc. using odbc or dsn connections.
