Open gives Security Warning

I helped a friend setup an Access database which is accessed from two
computers on a 3-PC peer-to-peer network. On the 2nd PC there is a
shortcut on the desktop that points to the database on the 1st PC. This
has worked for many months. Today, when he tried to use the shortcut he
got a "Open File - Security Warning" dialog box and following that
through Access did not start.

There is a KB Article ID: 889815 that refers to a Security Update
KB929969 of 12 Jan 07 and Security Bulletin MS07-004. Is this behaviour
the result of last week's security updates (he automatically updates
his WinXP Sp2)? The shortcut worked noramlly last week.

How can we get back to accessing the database from the 2nd PC?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Sounds like the infamous Office "SandBox" security settings. When this
happens either the Access on the PC was upgraded to Access 2003 or
later
OR
Someone/something has changed your security (registry) settings.

A)
To turn off the sandbox security settings (for Access only and leave it
on for other Office items) you need to inspect and possibly change two
registry settings. You need to do this for each computer that has the
problem.

Set or create the following registry keys:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engi nes]
"SandBoxMode"=dword:00000002

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\ Access\Security]
"Level"=dword:00000001

B)
Alternatively: If you need to keep your security settings at Medium or
High, then you will need to obtain or create a digital signature for
your application. Its too complex for me to give a brief hoto so do a
google search.

My very personal bias is to use option (A) but of course Microsoft has
a different viewpoint.

Oops! I forgot to mention. The registry entries I gave are for Access
2003. If you are using a different version of Access they might be
....Jet\{something else}... and ...\Office\{something else}...

Good luck.
