Best Procedure for Image Handling

I have a database made up of students' profiles. I would like the form to have an object that displays the student's picture. I used to use gifs and ole object fields, but I recently switched to Access 2003 and this is no longer an option. After much reading online, it seems like the best option is BLOBs.

Can someone give me a practical application of using BLOBs with Images?
